Description
Waterborne polymer composites based on poly(methyl methacrylate-co-butyl acrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate) [P(MMA-BA-GMA)] and a hybrid filler of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and metal phthalocyanines (MPcs) were developed and characterized. Composites containing 3 wt% rGO/MPc were obtained by emulsion mixing of the aqueous polymer and filler dispersions.
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed two distinct filler morphologies, consisting of dispersed nanoaggregates and interconnected filler networks within the polymer matrix. Four-point probe measurements showed electrical conductivities on the order of 10⁻⁵ S/m, indicating semiconducting behavior. Dielectric spectroscopy demonstrated enhanced dielectric properties compared with the neat polymer, with increased dielectric permittivity and dielectric losses. The observed electrical and dielectric response is attributed to the formation of conductive pathways, interfacial polarization, and the extensive three-phase interfaces between rGO, MPc, and the polymer matrix.
These results demonstrate the potential of rGO/MPc hybrid fillers for tailoring the morphological, electrical, and dielectric properties of waterborne polymer composites for advanced functional applications.
