Description
Chemical agents used for pest control - known as pesticides, pose a significant risk to human health and the environment if they are not used in accordance with prescribed safety measures. The potential danger associated with pesticide use is increasing due to their widespread application in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, municipal activities, and even in the production of chemical weapons.
Improper handling during the production, transportation, distribution, use, and degradation of pesticides can have serious adverse effects on both humans and the environment, either directly or indirectly. In order to respond promptly and effectively to issues related to pesticide use, intensive and comprehensive research must be conducted on their beneficial and harmful mechanisms of action, toxicity and the monitoring of pesticide exposure.
This paper pays special attention to risk assessment, measures for controlling exposure to pesticides, physical and chemical protection during pesticide use, as well as the potential acute and chronic effects of exposure. The aim is to raise awareness of the need for an integrated approach to protection, encompassing technical, organizational, and health-related measures, in order to preserve human health and protect the environment. The paper also defines measures for preventing, reducing, and eliminating harmful environmental impacts, as well as reducing health risks for individuals who come into contacat with pesticides.
